Happy Thanksgiving to all you Americans out there and happy Thursday to everyone else!  I’m thankful for the friends I’ve made on this site and for the great game of golf that I’m fortunate to have sufficient health, time, and means to enjoy.  I’m also thankful that a remarkable amount of swing footage from masters of the traditional forms of golf (Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, etc.) survives to this day is is available for free on the internet.

One aspect of traditional golf that appeals to me is the simplicity.  If you strip away the sponsors, galleries, commentators, range finders, rules officials, etc. you are left with a club, a ball, and a golf course.  This is a form of golf that most amateurs like myself relate best to.  This simple backdrop allows us to clearly gauge our performance using feel, sight, and sound.  The following video, edited by John Erickson, is taken from the famous Hogan – Snead Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf match.  The commentators have been edited out leaving only the sounds of the golf course and the strike along with the one of the most beautiful and functional golf swings in history.
